Newborn sessions are unlike any other — the baby is the boss, and our whole job is to follow their lead. After photographing thousands of little ones, here's what makes a session calm, safe, and full of those melt-your-heart moments.
Babies are at their sleepiest and curliest in the first 5–14 days, which makes those classic snuggled poses easier. That said, we photograph older babies beautifully too — every age has its own magic.
A warm, cozy space helps babies stay sleepy and content — think a few degrees warmer than feels comfortable for you. We keep the studio toasty for exactly this reason.
A full belly is a happy, sleepy belly. Arriving with a little time to spare means we can feed, burp, and settle without watching the clock.
The secret to newborn photos isn't speed — it's patience and a warm, quiet room.
Safety always comes first. We gently guide every pose and never put a baby in a position they can't naturally settle into. You'll often see two people in "composite" shots for support — that's intentional and safe.
A grandmother's quilt, a special wrap, a tiny pair of booties — small heirlooms make a portrait yours. Send us your ideas ahead of time and we'll plan around them.
Most of all, relax. Some of our favorite images happen in the in-between moments while everyone's just being a family.
